October 2003

Hello Members and Friends,

Please mark your calendars. The next E. 1488 Community Association meeting will be held November 13 at 7 p.m. in the library of Bear Branch Junior High School. Voting members are urged to attend as this will be a working meeting. Reports will be made by various committee Chairs and there will be discussion of future projects/goals of the Association. Make your wants known!

New Web Site

The new website (www.e1488ca.org ) is up and running. Please check it out.

Many thanks to Ken Jennings, our former webmaster, for his numerous volunteer hours spent working on the other website, taking photos and supporting the East 1488 Community Association in so many ways. We’ve very grateful to Ken for launching us into the web world.

And welcome and thank you new webmaster Steve Lansdowne of Lansdowne Web Design for creating and maintaining our new web site. (www.e1488ca.org )

Widening of FM 1488

Michael M Beitler, Assistant County Engineer, is hopeful the widening of FM 1488 between FM 2978 and State Highway 242, may being in a year. Read the whole story on the web site. . (www.e1488ca.org )

SMC Improvement District

The Board of the Southwest Montgomery County Improvement District met on October 9 to discuss strategies for the future.

As the District has been created, and legally exists, it may carry on business as a start-up District. The District may accept donations for use as operating expenses until it has been confirmed by an election.

Chairman Robert (Barney) Barnwell has set up several committees. They include: A Research Committee to look into the purposes and goals of other Texas Improvement Districts and evaluate their performances; a Budget Committee to determine and forecast revenue sources and amounts available; a Communications Committee to gather public input and interface with neighborhood organizations to keep the public informed.

Board members have not yet determined when another confirmation hearing will be held.

Quadvest

Lake Windcrest and Sendera Ranch (among others) continue to negotiate with Quadvest about their proposed water and meter rate hikes. As these communities have stepped forward on behalf of all the communities affected by these rate hikes, they deserve our thanks. When more information becomes available, we’ll post it on our web site.

Sign Committee

Chairperson Cheryl Meyer remains active. She’s contacting county and state regulatory agencies concerning the types of signs allowed and where they may be placed. Though bandit signs have decreased considerably along the eastern length of FM 1488, largely due to her efforts, she still needs help. If you can offer assistance in any way, please contact her through e1488communityassoc@charter.net .

Thanks for your support. See you November 13 at 7 p.m. in the library of Bear Branch Junior High School.

Regards,

Ann K Anderson, President
